Add mystery to your life

When I moved my old blog to a private directory and started this one from scratch, I left much of my “public” writing behind, including my reports of books I liked (and didn’t like). I do love to give book recommendations, however, so I’m reposting here my “reviews” of some mystery books I enjoyed reading over the last year.

Yahoo has a new layout and it’s bad

Yahoo has changed its layout and it’s for the worse. For some reason, they’ve decided to make it firefox unfriendly – many of the new buttons the site now uses are invisiable to firefox users. The RSS reader at My Yahoo also seems to have problems. *sigh*

The value of things

I fear that my daughter doesn’t value enough her toys and possessions and that this is completely my fault. You see, when Mika was small I made a point to let her know that anything she lost or damaged could easily be replaced. I simply did not want her to be heartbroken, much less traumatized, by the loss of some cherished toy. That worked too well, as her response to such losses now is

Afghans vs. Afghanis

The food section of my website is probably and understandably its most popular section. I often get comments about my recipes and, of course, corrections. Contrary to public perception, I do like to admit when I’m wrong about something, so I will highlight my mistakes under this “corrections” category in my blog.
The first correction goes to my misuse of the word “Afghani”. Apparently, “Afghani” is the unit of currency used in Afghanistan. The proper way to refer to the Afghan people is as “Afghans”, and this is also the proper adjetive to refer to Afghan food. Still, however you call it, Afghan food is delicious.
