Admit it. You liked Sarah Palin. You always had dirty fantasies about making it with your teacher or librarian, having her take off those ugly glasses, let her hair lose and seduce you….
I think that those librarian fantasies are the main reason why Republican men liked Sarah Palin. Personally, I don’t find her in the least attractive, but to each its own. But, for those who did not get enough of Sarah during the campaign, there is now a classy calendar that they can keep in their kitchen or garage walls. Alas, I’m sorry to say that those famous shots of Sarah Palin in a swimsuit are not part of the calendar. But you can see her with her rifle, suggestively holding the barrel. Classy, very classy.
In other news, Joe the Plumber is now a war correspondent for PJTV, a fox-wannabe website. He’ll be reporting on the attacks on Gaza (or, as they call it, the “Gaza war”) from the safety of Israel. Apparently, PJTV thinks that the American media (you know, that media that gives 2 minutes a day to cover the war, never shows pictures of the devastation that Israel’s bombs cause and basically condone Israel’s grave crimes against humanity and war crimes by not even implying that they may be so) is too slanted against Israel. There is a reason why I categorized this post as “the absurd”.

A few days ago, Mike joined Twitter, a website where people broadcast what they are doing to whoever, for whatever reason, wants to be updated about their doings. I decided to give it a try as well, and I now have an account at http://twitter.com/margal. As I only have Mike as a follower, I don’t know if I’ll keep it updated. I also created an account for Derechos. That one I’ll try to keep updated, at least for a while. The url is http://twitter.com/derechos. We’ll see.
I also have a page in facebook. I created it because people kept inviting me. There is no info about me, but today I posted something. In case you want to be my “friend”, the url seems to be http://www.facebook.com/people/Margarita-Lacabe/613565288. If you send me an invite I’ll be your friend too š
I have to say, that I have only had one bad experience at my local supermarket, Safeway (once, when I was 37 years old, one of the cashiers asked for my ID when I tried to buy some wine – I don’t carry it with me, so I made a small fuzz about it, and they finally let me buy it. I’m sorry, I may look a couple of years younger than my age, but I have no hope in hell of looking 20).
Kathy, my sister, however, has been having the worst luck at Ralph’s in Chatsworth (in the San Fernando Valley) – where they are making huge fuzzes about ID’s. It seems more a matter of trying to annoy customers than of legitimately wanting to make sure the customer is not underage. Don’t these stores realize that that’s how they lose customers?
Anyway, here is her story
Something is not working right at Amazon.com. The last two orders I shipped, both for items in stock, have been taking forever to ship. Not to be delivered, mind you, but to make it out of Amazon warehouses. My first order, for a tea set and a cookbook, did not ship until 12 (TWELVE) days after I placed it. My second order, for a dvd player, also said to be in stock, is taking an estimated 7 days to ship! And of course, it could be more!
In the past, when they were having problems shipping a specific item, they’d divide the order in parts, and ship them separately. This has not happened with either of the orders I made – which makes me think the problem are not the items themselves, but their whole shipping operation.
So what’s the problem? Are their workers striking? Have they laid of so many people that they cannot deal with the work they have? Are they lying when they say they have items in stock? Have they just become utterly incompetent.
I don’t know, and I’m not sure that I care. All I can say is that I’m not going to be doing any shopping at Amazon, unless I have a full month to receive the items. Too bad for them, because I use it a lot.
Update I called the Amazon customer service people and talked to them as to why my shipments were so delayed. Apparently, if you chose free shipping they can take up to 5 business days to ship your order. And they count holidays (even minor ones as veterans’ day) and Saturdays as business days, even though they work on those days. So, it’s not that they use a slower shipping service, just that they make you pay for the free shipping by holding to your order for days before they ship it. I think this did not use to be their policy, but they really want to encourage people to spend more money now that sales have gone down. The problem for them is that this will discourage customers from shopping there.
The other thing they are no longer doing is splitting orders. In the past, if one item wasn’t shipping for whatever reason, they’d mail you whatever was available. No longer – unless you specifically pay for it. Again, not a customer friendly policy.
Anyway, my conversations with the customer service people did bear fruits, and both the DVD player and the case for such player were shipped yesterday – and they should be here well before my thanksgiving trip.
